|
Artist:
M McDaeth Released in 2005 Shine in Reverse has received some pretty outrageous reviews in the Press. No one is quite sure what to think of this ground-breaking double CD monster. Some call him the "Anti-Guthrie" others think he's years ahead of his time. McDaeth thinks he's just playing music and singing songs the natural way without artifice and grief. Shine in Reverse is where the music was torn apart and put back together again. |

"Torn Apart " | Artist:
Weeds Peterson "All Hail the Coming of Weeds" (2006) After nearly a decade apart the guys from Weeds Peterson got back together and recorded a bunch of songs. It was the Summer of 2004. A plan was hatched to take over the world and cruelly lead everyone to disaster. It was determined that this was already happening so they went back to the dreamtime. They left behind "All Hail the Coming of Weeds" as a memento for anyone who gives a shit. |

"Everybody's
Fault"
|
Artist:
M McDaeth I'm not patronizing you here, I'm protecting you. Move along. You aren't ready for this. Buy it for your unborn children. What are the chances you're going to understand the fierce softness and the soft ferocity? I wouldn't bet on you. And I like you. Part Daniel Johnston, part Stravinsky, part Kurt Cobain, part Foggy Mountain Boys, Michael McDaeth breaks through all the frames of form and comes out the other side with something so odd, so brave, so beautiful and so irritating you won't know what to make of it. When it hits you, it may leave a mark i.e. I hope you don't bruise easily, i.e. I hope you don't cry easily, i.e. I hope you dig it. It's only one guy and only one guitar and one ill-used and slightly grumpy harmonica. How does it sound like a firestorm on Mars? Beats me. Beats me good. Go to mcdaeth.com and listen to "We're Anonymous" from Shine In Reverse. It'll ease you into it. This is slam dancing for the soul. Hope you're insured. - picassobriefcase.com

"Lo

|
Artist:
M McDaeth Vulnerable. Sloppy. Sharp. Clever. Funny. Sorrowful. It's not folk. It's not punk. It's music. Powerful music. Comfortingly odd. Eccentrically loving. It'll get into your system and purge your ennui. You'll start humming the hummable bits and yelling the yellable. |

"Sugar
Headache "
|
Artist:
M McDaeth Post-modern
folkie bard McDaeth sets his jaundiced American tales against a babbling
background of film and television dialogue, an oft-used device (remember
Pink Floyd's The Wall?) that adds little more than distraction here.
Michael's raspy croak falls somewhere between young Tom Waits and old
Dylan, which lends his tunes a certain gravitas, but on balance, this
Cow tips toward style over substance. Nevertheless, McDaeth remains
an artist to watch; check out his previous release, Gondwanaland
(2001), to hear why. |

"Taking
My Time"
|
Artist:
M McDaeth Lost and lonely, disenchanted, faithless and resigned - sad, small characters come alive in the songs of Michael McDaeth. He sets his players on a stark stage of gruff voice and understated acoustic guitar, an economy of expression akin to Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska. Tom Waits fans, too, will appreciate McDaeth's gift for finding the sublime in the banal: "I'm stuck at a stop light eating a deep fried sugar loaf ain't contemplating suicide/I'm empty inside but I'm all right" (from "Profitability"). A riverboat tour, recorded on micro cassette, plays in the background throughout Gondwanaland, providing eerie counterpoint to these quietly unsettling tales.
